The Rice groundskeeping team consists of thirty-plus dedicated professionals who care for the 300-acre campus landscape and the iconic trees. We also maintain the playing fields around campus and help create a positive first impression of the university. The equipment operator position is an essential team member who may work in a variety of roles while operating and maintaining large grounds equipment such as tractors and attachments, skid steer loaders, riding mowers, specialized sprayers-spreaders, large edging machines, garbage trucks, street sweepers, dump trucks and other related equipment and machinery used to complete grounds maintenance tasks and/or collect, sort, transport and remove solid waste, recyclable materials and green waste on campus.
The incumbent also provides assistance with furniture moving and event set up, and assists groundskeepers with mowing, trimming, edging, pruning, raking, planting and weeding of campus grounds as needed.
